Rhino revelry
"Little" Ramir the Indian rhino calf (he's well over 300 pounds at 6 weeks of age) is growing quickly—and so is his adoring audience at the Wild Animal Park's Animal Care Center! Ramir was born December 23 to a first-time mother that wasn't producing enough milk, so he's being bottle fed by his keepers—more than a gallon of milk five times each day! Stop by for a visit and watch the not-so-little guy grow.
Explore conservation
California's biodiversity is the theme of this year's State of Endangered Species event, which takes place tomorrow, Feb. 7, at the San Diego Natural History Museum. Presented by the San Diego Zoo, the event features fascinating presentations by conservation experts, and you're invited to be there!
Cuddle a panda or roar with the lions
If you're yearning for adventure or dream of holding a giant panda cub on your lap, there are still spaces left on the Zoo's WorldWild Tours trip to China this April. If you would rather roar with the lions at dawn, Kenya Under Canvas departs in late May.
Climb the Gumtree!
Young animal lovers ages 6-12 can keep up on all the critter chatter by signing up for the Gumtree, our new children's e-newsletter. Which branch will be the favorite—Who's new at the Zoo? In the Spotlight? Mystery Animal? There are so many things to see and do: videos, quick games, stories, and more. Sign your child up soon—they won't want to miss a thing!
More ZOONOOZ to explore
There's now more to ZOONOOZ than meets the printed page! The San Diego Zoo Web site has a new ZOONOOZ section that takes the printed articles to a new level, with related videos, photos, blogs, and online links to keep you in the know. See what you can find!
February 2009 Animal Care Wish List
This month, love is in the air at the San Diego Zoo and Wild Animal Park. We have lots of romantic items that our animals can't wait to cuddle up to, as well as international conservation projects and summer internship opportunities. Spread the love by checking out our Valentine-themed Wish List. And if you're not sure what to give your loved one for Valentine's Day, why not show just how much you care by symbolically adopting a giraffe.
