“CAREERS WITH ANIMALS” WORKSHOP SERIES
All dates meet 1:30-3:30pm
For those students who are interested in learning more about careers working with animals, we are offering a look at a variety of different skills needed to prepare for such a career. The classes will include an introduction to live animals, interactive activities, tours and lab work.

One of Staten Island Zoo’s most loved programs. Join us for a tour of our animal kitchen, help prepare some food for critters and watch them eat. Meet some animals close up and have a breakfast snack while you are here.

Calling all Pre-K and Kindergarten adventure seekers. Meet and learn about animals and their unique adaptations, enjoy snacks, take special tours and make crafts. Registration is limited, so sign up right away. Each session will explore a different topic.

Eggstravaganza - Sat. April 4- 12:00-3:00pm
We will explore the world of eggs from the Easter variety to those made by frogs, turtles, bugs and many others. Join us for some “eggy” activities and make a craft egg to take home.
Program Free with regular Zoo admission.
Want to help hunt for eggs? There will be age appropriate egg hunts scheduled throughout the afternoon for an additional fee. There will be one grand prize egg for each age category.

The zoo will put the “spring” back into vacation with a summer camp session in April! Spend the day touring the zoo, meeting animals, playing games and much more! Registration is limited.

HEALING WORKSHOP – Sat., April 18 - 10:30-2:00pm (1/2 hr. lunch)
Back by popular demand: Harness your energy allowing your body to naturally heal itself. This workshop gives you powerful techniques to release stress and build up energy. Learn how to use pressure points (not only on yourself but your pet also) and meditation to release mental and physical stress. Instructor, Joe Rubino, will guide the class as you learn to heal mind and body.

Viva Voce Woodwinds and Staten Island’s first lady of literacy, Nina Long, present a concert of “beastly” music for woodwind quintet and narrator.

Earth Fair – Sat. April 25 10:30am – 4:00pm
The Zoo would like to celebrate Earth Day with you! There will be zookeeper talks, environmental programs, displays, face painting, crafts and all sorts of fun. Come and meet local environmental organizations and learn what you can do to keep our planet healthy while having a fair of a time.

Adopt-a-Soldier Day – Sat. May 16 – 12:00 - 4:00pm
The zoo is celebrating Armed Forces Day by accepting donations for soldiers in Iraq. Donations of toiletries, snacks, stationary, recreation/entertainment items and most important, letters of encouragement will be accepted. Please call the Zoo, or see the Zoo’s website, for a complete list of supplies for soldiers.

$1.00 will be taken off price of admission if making a donation and visiting the zoo.

Sheep Shearing Madness– Sun. May 17- 1:00-4:00pm
Spring is here – our sheeps’ wool must disappear! It is sheep shearing time again.
Mr. Peter Sepe, a professional sheep shearer, will once again shear the wool from our flock. The Staten Island Hand spinners and Weavers will demonstrate how the wool is spun into yarn used to weave or knit scarves, hats and sweaters. Get your own “shear” while you’re here from a professional stylist! Bring the entire family and enjoy!
Demonstrations are free with regular Zoo admission.

Zoofari Recruitment Day – Saturday, May 23 – 10:00am
Do you like working with children? Do you like playing games, making crafts, and looking at the zoo animals? If so, we could use your help with summer camp. Come and find out what it is all about!
ENDANGERED SPECIES DAY – Saturday, May 24- 1:00pm - 4:00pm
Find out about the animals that need your help. Not only the animals from the rainforest, coral reef, or polar caps, but animals right here in NY. Animal encounters, keeper talks, and crafts for the children. Free with zoo admission.
TEDDY BEAR/ WEBKINZ CLINIC – Saturday, May 30 - 1:30-3:30pm
Do you have a stuffed animal that needs repair? In this very popular program, find out how the Zoo cares for real animals when they get sick while yours is in “surgery” being put back together as good as new. You can play “doctor” with some of Education Department’s stuffed animals as well as meet some live, healthy specimens.

FESTA ITALIANA- Saturday, June 6 and Sunday, June 7 – Time TBA
Staten Island Rotary in conjunction with the Staten Island Zoo will host a wonderful Italian festival this weekend. This celebration will include all the markings of a true Italian feast…food, music, games, rides, presentations and more. You don’t have to wait until September to attend a fabulous Italian festival, mark your calendars now.

Pig Kissing Fundraising Contest – Begins Sat. June 6/ Ends Sat. July 11
Give us your spare change and you will see a Famous New Yorker kiss a real pig! The Famous New Yorker with the most money in his/ her jar will kiss our real pig at the BBQ on Saturday, July 11th from 1:00-4:00. This fundraiser will help the education department at the Staten Island Zoo.
All jars to collect money will be out from Sat 6/6 until Sun 7/5.
Father’s Day – Sunday, June 21 -10:00am - 4:45pm
Dad’s are free with a paid child. Special animal encounters and crafts for the children.

Do you ever wonder what the animals do all day long at the zoo? Come to the Staten Island Zoo and watch your favorite animal get their favorite toy.
