Aquarium Names New Technology Support Analyst


Kure Beach, NC – Xaviel Urquhart has joined the team at the North Carolina Aquarium at Fort Fisher as the new Technology Support Analyst. Urquhart’s duties include providing support for LAN and desktop computers, as well as being responsible for configuring, performing, tuning, and supporting network servers and desktop workstations. He will also assist in technology matters at the North Carolina Aquarium at Pine Knoll Shores in Atlantic Beach.

According to Donna Moffitt, aquarium director, “Xaviel is such an amazing addition to the team. He has over 20 years experience in the computer technology field, and knows a computer like the back of his hand! His expertise will definitely assist the aquarium in advancing our technology.”

Over the years, Urquhart has worked in a variety of computer technology positions at diverse companies, including Compaq Computer Corporation, Bertie Count Schools, and New Hope Foundation. He graduated from ECPI College of Technology in 1980, and has been a Certified Novell Administrator since 1996. He holds certifications in most major computer manufacturers, such as Hewlett Packard, IBM, Toshiba, Okidata, and Compaq.

Urquhart says, “I have become more interested in nature, including sea life and natural resources. I have always enjoyed technology, and I hope to use it for future activities to advance our aquarium here at Fort Fisher.”

NC Aquarium at Fort Fisher is located just south of Kure Beach, near the mouth of the Cape Fear River, on U.S. 421. The site is less than a mile from the Fort Fisher ferry terminal. Hours: 9:00 am to 5:00 pm daily (closed Thanksgiving, Christmas, and New Year’s Day). Admission: $8 adults; $7 seniors; $6 ages 6-17.
