“Beginning January 5th, the Central Florida Zoo & Botanical Gardens will start collecting clean EPS Styrofoam as a part of our Community Recycling Program,” says Joe Montisano, CEO. “For decades we have been taught that Styrofoam has a negative impact on the environment, that it leaches carcinogens into our food and drink, isn’t recyclable or biodegradable, and poses imminent danger to our wildlife once discarded - but times are changing thanks to our partnership with Blue Earth Solutions,” he went on to say.
The Central Florida Zoo & Botanical Gardens in partnership with Blue Earth Solutions, a new company in Clermont, will put the first Styrofoam collection bin in Central Florida at the Zoo. Blue Earth Solutions has the only patent on a truly environmentally friendly polystyrene recycling process. Their StyroSolve system is a non-toxic and biodegradable solution making it a preferred alternative to the traditional disposal methods where Styrofoam is incinerated or discarded in a landfill.
For now, residents and businesses alike can drop off their clean Styrofoam containers at the Zoo. The Zoo is working with Blue Earth Solutions to place collection bins throughout the Central Florida area. Styrofoam must be free of food and debris. Small quantities can be delivered directly to the collection bin located near the entrance to the Zoo. To deliver large volumes or to sponsor a collection bin in your area, please contact 407.323.4450 ext. 127 for details.
The Central Florida Zoo & Botanical Gardens is a 116-acre private, nonprofit organization dedicated to the conservation of wildlife and to engaging and educating our guests by sharing knowledge and celebrating our natural world.
