Melbourne, FL—Registration begins February 2 for Brevard Zoo’s spring and summer camps sponsored by National City, now a part of PNC bank. Register by March 15, and receive $15 off on each camp registration. This year, the zoo’s spring camps will be all day, from 8 a.m. to 4 p.m., Monday through Friday, April 6 to 10. Summer camps begin June 8 and will offer morning, afternoon, and full day camps. Campers participating in both the spring and summer programs will get a chance to explore the Zoo’s new Paws On exhibit, which opens February 14, as part of the camp experience.
Spring camps offer fun and educational programming. The full day camp will cost $250 for members and $280 for non-members. The camp sessions are as follows: For kindergarteners through first grade, Animotion identifies the many movements found in the animal kingdom; for second and third graders, Surf and Turf Adventures shows how animals survive in the wild; and for fourth, fifth, and sixth graders, Habitat Hunters covers how animals adapt to their environment.
Summer camps run June 8-July 31, Monday through Friday, twice a day. Choose morning camps from 8 a.m. to 12 p.m. and one afternoon camp from 12 to 4 p.m. Cost to participate in the half day camps will be $120 for members and $140 for non-members. Full Day Camps are available from 8 a.m. to 4 p.m., and the cost will be $250 for members and $280 for non-members.
Summer morning camps offer a multitude of programs for children of all ages. For children entering first grade, Sensational Animals explores how animals use their senses and Amazing Adaptations identifies why animals behave and look the way they do. Those entering second grade can enjoy Animal Actors and create their own animal play complete with co-stars or Crafty Creatures, which shows what animals go through to survive in the wild. For children entering third and fourth grade, Animon investigates many different animals. There will be one Afternoon Camp for children entering third and fourth grade called Wet-n-Wild Animal Adventures.
The summer full day camps, which run from 8 a.m. to 4 p.m., are for the older kids. Those entering third and fourth grade will experience disgusting animal habits in Ickyology. For children entering fifth and sixth grade, they can choose Zoovivor, which will test the campers skills against the animals, or Jr. ZooKeepers, which teachers the skills needed to be a zookeeper.
For the older kids, those entering seventh, eighth, and ninth grade, the zoo will offer Earth Explorers, where campers learn the unique wonders that are a part of Central Florida by exploring the county’s wetlands, beaches, sub-tropical forests, and the Indian River Lagoon. This camp is limited to 10 explorers and includes field trips. This camp costs $300 for members and $330 for non-members.
The Zoo will offer two new art camps as part of the summer camp selection. Summer art camps run August 3 through August 14 and are for children entering first through sixth grade. Campers will work with local artists learning about animals through art, music, dance, and dramatic play. The new art camps are from 8:30 a.m. to 4 p.m. and cost $250 for members and $280 for non-members. Campers should choose to attend only one week, as activities are the same for both weeks.
